MATHEMATICAL PUBLICATIONS ARCHIVE
From time to time I find electronic documents, which despite their age are really useful. Here are some that I use or refer to on a regular basis. At the bottom of the page you will also find copies of the latest maths KS 1 and KS 2 tests as zipped files. I hope that you find them useful too.
All these documents are Crown Copyright

Here are three really useful documents with lots of ideas inside. At the moment, copies sit in the DfE archive, so I thought I'd add them to my website. They were originally given to teachers when they attended the old 5 day subject knowledge course.
Each booklet is 16 pages long and packed with useful activities for all age groups (with the exception of the calculator activities book, which is aimed at Years 4, 5 and 6).
Calculators (pdf file 2059kb).
Shape and space (pdf file 2016kb).
Reasoning about number (pdf file 2062kb).
Mathematical challenges for the more able
A really fantastic book packed full of problems for all age groups to solve. My colleagues in the Suffolk Mathematics Team wrote a companion book to this, cross referencing all the problems by the type of problem and giving each question a minimum of three levels of differentiation. Contact the maths team directly for hard copies.

NNS Homework Activities
Here are some pdf copies of the old National Numeracy Strategy homework book.
Apologies in advance, as the quality isn’t great, but you can still use the ideas and activities.

Interactive teaching programmes (ITPs)
Here are my favourite ITPs. They are not ‘all singing and dancing programmes.’ Teachers will have to think about how best to use them and what key questions to ask. Check out the instructions documents as some of the ITPs have hidden buttons or areas on the screen.

National SATs papers
Mathematics SATs papers in line with the new curriculum:
Speaking and listening materials
You’ll find these materials with your literacy subject leader, however there’s some really useful materials inside these books for mathematics. Well worth checking out especially the posters.

Speaking and listening objectives and classroom activities (PDF file 758kb).
Speaking and listening posters (PDF file 467kb).
Springboard files – these are not in line with 2014 UK curriculum. There are some good ideas and activities in these material
Securing Level booklets – – not in line with 2014 UK curriculum. There are some good ideas and activities in these materials
Overcoming barrier booklets These files are not in line with the 2014 UK curriculum but there are some good ideas and activities in these materials. Here are copies of the booklets.
Old models and images posters
The yearly expectations have changed but the models and images are still useful.

QCA documents
Although quite old now, there is some really useful information in these documents. Particularly useful to share with learning support assistants and NQTs.
Teaching mental calculation (PDF file 409kb).
Teaching written calculation (PDF file 908kb).
Mathematics glossary KS 1 – KS 4 (PDF file 227kb).
Initially, this document was written for the more able. Unfortunately, it gave the message that only more able children could problem solve, which clearly isn't true.
This document became known as simply the Mathematical Challenges book. The contents are really useful and the answers are published at the end of the book.
